House Of Flying Daggers – Raekwon Feat. Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Gza

The late great Jay Dee (Dilla) crafted the beat for House of Flying Daggers which features kung fu clips and sounds like a vintage Rza banger. Raekwon enlists some of the Clan’s finest  Method Man, Ghostface and Inspectah Deck to spit verses while Gza holds down the chorus.  After listening to this song it’s starting to sound like Raekwon might actually pull this off and have his crown back this year.

Citizen Cope ft Santana-Sideways

cope_greenwood

I’m really in that kind of mood today so here is a dutch/backwoods classic I had to introduce. Now I’ve been a fan of citizen cope for a few years now and the one thing that I can say mostly describes this music, is soul. This song takes R&B back to its roots with true rhythm and blues. Citizen cope has an original and very soulful sound that is very pleasing to listen to at any time of the day but even more so when you’ve got time to relax and inhale those indulgent scents and aromas of high quality greenery’s…relax and enjoy.

this vid is set to the visuals of the movie “The Fountain”

another one of my favorites simple and soulful this is “Let the drummer kick”

Agent Orange – Cage

Cage released the underground classic Agent Orange produced by Necro back in 97.  Off the strength of that 12′ Cage eventually dropped Movies for the Blind(2002) on Eastern Conference, Hell’s Winter(2005) and earlier this month (7/7/09) Depart From Me on Definitive Jux.  Cage has undergone quite the evolution as an artist over the past decade as his newest effort Depart From Me sounds nothing like that of the old Cage.Download/Stream–>http://www.zshare.net/audio/632603652392aa6d/

Consequently Cage will be performing on the final leg of his Depart From Me tour this Friday on Brighton Ave in Allston at Harper’s Ferry with helpout from Yak Ballz and HHTT extended family members the Nite People.  If you are in the area this Friday make sure to check them out.

Dead Presidents

dead_presidentsdp2

“Hey brotha, you wanna get the mans foot off your kneck?”   this Hughes brothers classic from 1995 follows the life of a young teen graduating from high school ready to face the world during a turbulant vietnam war era. Rather than getting  off on a stereotypically racial standpoint the Hughes brothers focused more on the becoming of a man for young Anthony Curtis(larenz tate). The movie does a good job keeping with the 1960’s and 70’s feel, strongly due to one of the best soundtracks ever made and the simple visuals of classic cars and such. Though the filming can be summed up as average the thing that makes this movie a classic is the dialogue. DP is def the most quotably pleasing movie I have ever seen. Keith David, Chris Tucker, Bokeem Woodbine and even Therance Howard provide some of the best quotes ever. for example Kirby(keith david) has some of the most reusable quotes like “Thats y’alls muthafuckin punkass friend” and “thats uncle sam for ya, money ta boyn(<-thats not a typo thats how he says it lol) bokeem provides my favorite with the powerful”Hey doc Shut the Fuck up ya don’t know shit”and the comical chris tucker; rules one of my favorite seens with the ever so funny”now say some mo shit!! i’ll knock yo ass right back down… fake ass, wannabe preacher, no members havin muthafucka!!!!” ahahaaha oh the laughs. I love this movie hands down. If you haven’t seen it or just haven’t seen it lately… watch it, and see if you dont come away quoting somethin from it…..

this clip contains two of my favorite parts in the whole movie…enjoy

I Should Tell ya Momma on You – Red (The Man Without The Machine)

A few months back my brother Lex(http://lexluthor34.com/2009/05/01/im-back/) put me on to a homeless man out in Cali who is crazy nice at the art of beatboxing.  Sure enough he has since rerecorded his material with the help of Stones Throw and it’s now available for download on itunes.  Red, The Man Without the Machine’s first single, I Should tell ya Momma on You, with remixes by CHOPS and Dam-Funk, dropped July 23rd.
