Sell Drugs (Cocaine) Hot Dogs & Coke Mixtape

After a brief hiatus from rap to focus on journalism I found myself still writing songs and rhyming. After hearing Mos Def’s Auditorium to the madlib beat I knew I had to jack it! I thought of my childhood in Mainsouth and what I considered cool as a kid. It wasn’t meant to be something brilliant, I wanted to be simple as possible; I wanted to explain what a kid growing up in Mainsouth Worcester, MA thought was cool. Ima sell cocaine/ get a gold chain/ 4 piece ring (rang)/ gun go bang/. The hook says it all b! I have two sons and never want them to experience some of the things I went through growing up but I will be dammed if I act like it didn’t exist. This song is actually the first time I made reference to my brother’s passing RIP Rob V. Toca did more than his thing on the mixing side, I trusted him to engineer me a classic and he did. Juice (the movie) is a gem for my team so the samples he added in were only fitting.

Mass Second – Cocaine Robots Hot Dogs & Coke Mixtape

My older brother (OG) just did a dime for some manslaughter shit and was back home. I re-connected with him and heard his story, his pain, and his fears. A few months later my brother was back in jail, caught back up in the cycle. When I found out the news I felt hurt, my older brother who went away when I was 17 was now gone again. That day I wrote my verse… Older brother OG, did 10 years flat/ manslaughter shit, cut a jugular and went back/… I wasn’t that kid anymore when he left; I became a man with my own family and responsibilities but still never forgot how I came up. The music I do now is kind of a way for us to re-connect, he was my hero growing up and even though he did wrong he is my older brother and blood runs deep. French had the song NY Minute playing hard in the streets so I decided to jack the beat on some mixtape shit and big up my state in the process.  I remember going to T to ask him to get on the track and after letting him know the deal he jumped on and brought that heat. T knows what it’s like being locked down and he is someone I hold high regard for in the streets and shit he my brother b!

TriggaMan feat. Lex Luthor Da’ Kitchen EP/& Coke

The chorus I had for a while in my head, I do this for my nigga man/ RIP Rob V, forever be my triggman/. Most people doing tribute songs go the slow tempo route but I felt that wouldn’t be true to me or to my nigga. Rob V loved Wu-Tang and especially the track Punishment off Wu-Forever, so deciding on a beat wasn’t very difficult. The difficult part was writing the track, every time I began to write I would tense up and think about my nigga. So many memories we had together I felt I was doing injustice by leaving something out but I realized just doing the song is a tribute to him enough. I met up with Lex @ his crib and we finalized on the hook and melody. It was not a question to get Lex on the track alongside myself knowing the relationship we all shared with V. T really blessed the track and I personally consider it his finest work to date on engineering. Lex had the idea to release it on his birthday which was genius and ironic, ironic for the part he brought us all together but was not here to be apart. He is with Allah now and I know he looking down on us, I miss u V.

Crack & a Dookie Rope Hot Dogs & Coke Mixtape

Heavily inspired from New Jack City, is my personal favorite Crack & a Dookie Rope. If you grew up in the late 80’s/ early 90’s then the name of the song should not seem foreign to you at all. Crack and a Dookie Rope symbolized power when I was growing up, I remember my brother had a dookie rope and I thought he was a king b! I was a kid watching talespin but in the next room my brother and his friends were bagging up work, rocking kangols and 4 piece rings from Kims. What was I supposed to think? YO MTV RAPS showed me niggas like Big Daddy Kane, Biz and Kool G Rap who all spoke of crack and rocked dookie ropes and they were cool as fuck in my eyes, this is what I wanted to be like! The flipside is you see how foolish it is, niggas die for some crack and a dookie rope in the hood b. Young men are growing up thinking their only chance at making revenue is selling drugs or engaging in criminal activity, which is false. I aint gonna sit back and act like I was not myself once foolish and did some dumb shit but that’s why I do this, to shed light and honor the older gods who put me on to how to rock this.

Music has become real fluffy; the east coast has lost its identity. I want to bring back that grittiness, that grime from the 90’s era of rap, my era of rap. – Brother Menelik
