Karl Malone on Magic’s Return to the NBA (’91/92)

Stemming from the great article Magic Retires (1991) written by Lex,  I decided to further touch on the topic.  After the Dream Team run Magic decided he was ready and more than willing to return to the NBA to continue in the sport which he loves so dear. Mind you, not everyone in and around the league were as willing to embrace a man w/ the HIV virus but some were more vocal.

Just Because he came back doesn’t mean anything to me, I’m not no fan or cheerleader. It may be good for basketball but you have to look far beyond that. You have a lot of young men who have a long life ahead of them. The Dream Team was a concept everybody loved. But now we’re back to reality. –Karl Malone

When Sir Charles Barkley was asked how he felt about Magic playing with the virus he said, I was with him all summer and never once thought about it, NEVER!

Now in 1991/92 I can understand Malone’s comments to an extent but I mean c’mon b you played on the Dream Team with this man now you running your mouth about one of the best to ever do it???? I can’t ride with Karl on this one b, I can’t! Karl should have done more research into the virus before opening his mouth and saying shit he obviously know nothing about. So is he saying the Dream Team run was a fluke??? That teams didn’t play the USA hard cause we had a player with the virus?? C’mon b!Karl aint the mailman he pony express…..slow minded muthafucka……..still one of the best PF’s of all time though.

Magic Retires (1991)

Erving “MAGIC” Johnson shocks the world in 1991 with the announcement that he had contracted HIV and that he was retiring from the game of basketball. At the time of this announcement HIV/AIDS was a new “killer” that people knew very little about. Untill the virus began to affect celebrities, it was widely thought of as a homosexual issue. Since little was known about how HIV was contracted, people who were affected by the virus were isolated and scrutinized to no end. Talk about from being on the top of the world to a foot in the grave…but since he is magic… you know he beat that shit…being a millionare didn’t hurt either.

They Got – Non Phixion

“1975 they created aids inside a laboratory” -Ill Bill

Non Phixion dropped their first record back in 94 with the help of MC Serch from 3rd Base, but the group really caught on back in 2000 with the release of the classic record Black Helicopters, They Got was the B-side to the Black Helicopters 12′

Also peep the entertaining video for Rock Stars produced by Dj Premier which was the group’s lead single for their debut album The Future Is Now.  Look out for cameo’s from the Beatnuts, Dj Premier, Greg Nice, Necro, Q-Unique, el-p and of course plenty of homeless.
