MEMENTO

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby,Carie-Ann Moss as Natalie and Joe Pantoliano as Teddy. Not many movies made these days grip you and captivate you they way memento can. Honestly this movie is one of the sickest movies I’ve ever saw. From the opening scene to just the plot itself, this movie is film-making genius. This movie is a masterpiece in the sense that it let’s you figure it out. I can always appreciate a movie that doesn’t insult my intelligence. It leaves you to put things together but it doesn’t make it impossible to figure out either. Ok the movie goes like this,Leonard Shelby, a former insurance fraud investigator is searching for the man he believes raped and killed his wife during a burglary. But Leonard suffers from antero-grade amnesia, which is basically short-term memory loss. The events unfold in 2 separate alternating narratives; one in black in white that goes in chronological order.  And the one in color consists of investigation sequences in reverse chronological order. Each color sequence begins with leonard forgetting where he was and what he was doing. The movies’ end sequence merges the narratives which make for one of the most rewarding endings you’ll ever see. With twists and turns along the way MEMENTO makes for an ultimate cerebral rollercoaster.

“The Will To Act” (Batman Begins)

After watching both batman films I still must say Batman Begins is slightly a better movie. Many are going to disagree but that’s ok, The Dark Knight was a spectacular movie and had many memorable moments but I personally think Batman Begins was a deeper and more complete film experience. There is a scene in the 1st film that I will never forget, it stars Liam Neeson (one of my favorite actors) and Christian Bale (another one of my top actors) sparing. Liam Neeson is a magnificent actor and it shows in all his films, in batman he excels even further. Liam trains the young Bruce Wayne and teaches him the “will to act”. He taunts Bruce saying his parents death was his fathers fault and then telling Bruce he is stronger than his father all while in fast paced combat. This scene is so wonderfully shot cinematically from the snow covered mountains to the white crystal like ice they engage battle upon. What brings it all together is the score, without the epic score I may not even be writing this now, that’s how vital it is to the film. HHTT APPROVEDThere is only the will to act and nothing else, the will to act is the choice only the individual can make. The will to act is the power to do something even when the odds are insurmountable. – Brother Menelik Ebna la-Hakim

Chistopher Nolan May Not Direct Dark Knight Sequel

When I first saw Batman Begins I fell in love with the film and when I saw Dark Knight cupid hit twice. Christopher Nolan has done a wonderful job directing these movies and is now thinking should he do another, he is quoted saying,

“There are two things to be said. One is the emphasis on story. What’s the story? Is there a story that’s going to keep me emotionally invested for the couple of years that it will take to make another one? That’s the overriding question. On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question: How many good third movies in a franchise can people name?”

Ok Chris I hear you on that these movies are long and shot from a very dramatic scope and much time is invested, but what of the flipside? WB has to be giving you money by the truckload, these movies have done so well Time Warner is letting you bathe in the money happily! There are a few good 3rd movies in franchises and I believe if Chris is behind the camera this could be another.
