2011 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest – 2011 NBA All-Star Game

Hands down one of the best all-around Dunk contests I’ve seen in years, contestants included Serge Ibaka, Javal McGee, Blake Griffin & DeMar DeRozan.

Oklahoma City Thunder’s Serge Ibaka took off from behind the free throw line (Dr.J) and even bit a toy off the rim for a distressed likkle youth.

Defending dunk-champion DeMar DeRozan was robbed in my opinion, no way he should have missed the final round, but that just goes to show the level of competition at this years dunk contest.  Teamed with his coach Darryl Chocolate Thunder Dawkins he named his dunks, check out the East Bay Funk Remix & The Show Stopper below.

The 7’0 Javal McGee had somewhat of a coming out party dunking 3 balls at once and also showing his long reach when he dunked two balls in two separate hoops simultaneously.

Blake Griffin, definitely the favorite coming in to the contest, showed and proved that he belongs on the dunk-throne.  Teamed with teammate Baron Davis, Blake completed a barrage of dunks to win the competition including this off the backboard monsterpiece.

Dunkfest – Blake Griffin

After sitting out the entire 2009-10 NBA season Clipper’s #1 draft pick Blake Griffin has emerged a straight beast.  Saturday night Griffin managed to put up 44 Points, 15 Rebounds & 7 Assists and a few monster dunks at home against the New York Knickerbockers.

Another slow season for the Los Angeles Clippers has Baron Davis chasing other hustles.

Rodney Rogers paralyzed in Accident

Former NBA and Wake Forrest standout player Rodney Rogers is now paralyzed from the shoulders down due to an accident he had on his ATV when he was riding in North Carolina on December 1st. Rogers a former all-american and the 1993 ACC player of the year at Wake Forrest, averaged over ten points a game over his 12-year career in the NBA and also a won the sixth man award in 1999, Rogers played for 8 NBA teams before he retired in 2005 season. I remember Rodney wetting 3’s back in the 2001-2002 season when he was traded along with Tony Delk to the Boston Celtics, with Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker, Eric Williams and Walter McCarty led the C’s to the Eastern Conference Finals.  Get well Rodney Rogers!

Allen Iverson heading to Detroit

NBA superstar Allen Iverson of the Denver Nuggets it seems will be traded to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Chauncey Billups and Antonio Mcdyess.  The Pistons already had a talented backcourt with Billups and Richard Hamilton, with the addition of A.I. the Pistons may have the most explosive backcourt in the league.  The Nuggets will gain a more “true” point guard with former NBA finals MVP Chauncey Billups and also Mcdyess can fill the void left by Marcus Camby who was picked up by the L.A. Clippers in the off-season.  This is definately a blockbuster trade pulled off by Joe Dumars only a few games into the season and expect The Pistons to challenge the defending champion Celtics in the East once again this year.
