Karl Malone on Magic’s Return to the NBA (’91/92)

Stemming from the great article Magic Retires (1991) written by Lex,  I decided to further touch on the topic.  After the Dream Team run Magic decided he was ready and more than willing to return to the NBA to continue in the sport which he loves so dear. Mind you, not everyone in and around the league were as willing to embrace a man w/ the HIV virus but some were more vocal.

Just Because he came back doesn’t mean anything to me, I’m not no fan or cheerleader. It may be good for basketball but you have to look far beyond that. You have a lot of young men who have a long life ahead of them. The Dream Team was a concept everybody loved. But now we’re back to reality. –Karl Malone

When Sir Charles Barkley was asked how he felt about Magic playing with the virus he said, I was with him all summer and never once thought about it, NEVER!

Now in 1991/92 I can understand Malone’s comments to an extent but I mean c’mon b you played on the Dream Team with this man now you running your mouth about one of the best to ever do it???? I can’t ride with Karl on this one b, I can’t! Karl should have done more research into the virus before opening his mouth and saying shit he obviously know nothing about. So is he saying the Dream Team run was a fluke??? That teams didn’t play the USA hard cause we had a player with the virus?? C’mon b!Karl aint the mailman he pony express…..slow minded muthafucka……..still one of the best PF’s of all time though.
