Raekwon breaks down the Purple Tape with Crooked I

After a recent Rock The Bells press conference Crooked I from Slaughterhouse got Raekwon the Chef to sit down for a brief interview.  Rae explains the purpose behind his debut cassette tapes color and explains how Compton’s own Mc Eiht came to have a small cameo in the 36 Chambers classic Can it Be All So Simple video.

To me Can it Be All So Simple was the best record on the classic 36 Chambers.  Over the Gladys Knight sample you can hear the foreshadowing of Ghostface & Raekwon’s Wu-Gambino persona’s (Tony Starks & Lex Diamonds) they would take on over the next few years showcased best on albums like Only Built 4 Cuban Linx & Ironman.  Enjoy the video directed by Hype Williams and lookout for that Mc Eiht cameo.

I Shot Ya- LL Cool J ft. Keith Murray, Prodigy, Fat Joe & Foxy Brown

“Illuminati want my mind, soul and my body. Secret society, tryin to keep they eye on me.”  – Prodigy

In 1995, LL Cool J released one of his biggest albums Mr. Smith.  The LP’s  double platinum success was due to the smash hits Loungin with/ Total, Doin It w/ LeShaun, Hey Lover w/ Boyz 2 Men plus most of the production being handled by Rashad Smith & The Trackmasters.  The Mr. Smith album wasn’t all bubble gum however, LL assembled Representatives from some of NY’s finest crews [Fat Joe (Terror Squad), Keith Murray(Def Squad/L.O.D.), Prodigy(Mobb Deep) & Foxy Brown(The Firm)] for the remix to his controversial record I Shot Ya.  Directed by Hype Williams, rumors swirling of Keith Murray tossing Prodigy around at the video shoot & loads of cameos this is a classic Hip-Hop video from a better era.

M.O.P. – Blood, Sweat and Tears (Belly Soundtrack)

bellydvd

When I first saw Hype Williams “Belly” I had to say I was not impressed at all. I thought Nasir’s acting was horrible and DMX was too erratic, once again I didn’t learn to appreciate the incredible visual Hype presented and the goon image so well portrayed by DMX. Now I can say I love Nas’ Character in the flick, there is always that dude in ya crew who wants out, who wants more and has just a little bit more focus and Nas did a good job on that.

This song right here me and my goons smoked many an “L” too, when this shit dropped it had that melodic feeling but at the same time some gun gangsta shit! MOP LIVE ON, WE NEED THAT RAW SHIT COME BACK MOP!
