Prom Queen/ Prom Feen (New Jack City)

pookie thanks

Sometimes a movie has so many good parts you have to strip them down and give them individual shine, at HHTT we major in that! Today I take a part from the urban classic New Jack City, Pookie lets his crack addicted female know where she ranks after she informs him of her former prom queen status. Oh and let us not forget what happens when the prom queen tires to deny Pookie some of that glorious turkeyView the classic review by Lex of New Jack City

We call these the “Pookie stairs”, I’m sure you know why. Well if you are not that enlightened we reference these stairs to the movie New Jack City, the part where pookie is running from Ice-T on his bike down those treacherous stairs. We may not live in New York but we all know Worcester got its gutter spots and this one HHTT had to acknowledge.men pull it down lex bakuplex look downrev hang

New York Undercover

New York Undercover was a ground breaking police drama that aired on FOX from 1994-1998. It starred Malik Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo as New York Detectives in the lead roles. The beauty of it was at the time it truly was ground breaking to see two people of color as police, further more in leading roles. A trademark of the show was the way they used a new song at the start of every episode. Each episode would start with a little back story, no words just the music as the ambiance. New York Undercover was the thing to peep on Thursday nights, I can remember going to school on Friday talking bout what happened on the show last night. It was a gritty police drama that went deep into the heart of New York and took no prisoners. You had drug runners, crocked cops, goonies (shorty’s with heat), Mafia etc. Besides capturing the rotten apple to its most inner core, NY Undercover showcased urban fashion like no other of its time. Malik and Michael rocked the flyest shit from Ralph Lauren to Armani including the newest flavor in the streets. The show also focused on the main characters personal lives deeply. JC (Malik Yoba) a single father struggling to raise his son right and Torres (Michael DeLorenzo) has a father addicted to drugs among other deep rooted family issues. The greatness lies in the connection you have for the characters, you see them at work and also at home which only deepens the connection. Ice-T guest stars a few episodes and does a fantastic job interrupting the balance, further invading the officer’s private lives as well as professional. NY Undercover is the Miami Vice of its time, the reason I say this is because Miami Vice captured the 80’s flawlessly (style/fashion/music) and NY Undercover was the same to the 90’s. This is one of the best police drama’s ever constructed only 2nd to the legendary Miami Vice. HHTT APPROVED

“Am I my brothers keeper?”  after watching this classic you cant help but come away with some of the best quotes.Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Mario Van Peebles, Judd Nelson , Chris Rock and Allen Payne come together in this 1991 crime thriller. Based largely in part on the CHAMBERS BROTHERS GANG of Detroit, this film focused on the way the gang revolutionized crack cocaine industry. After forcefully taking over an entire apartment complex, the gang utilized the complex for distribution, sales, packaging and storage. The CMB or CASH MONEY BROTHERS portrayed by (snipes&payne) Nino Brown and G-Money, take over the carter projects similar to the way that the chambers brothers had done. With a vendetta against drug users and dealers,( Ice-T and Judd Nelson) Scotty Appleton and Nick Peretti begin to pay close attention to nino and his operations and decide to send former stick-up-kid and ex-crackhead Pookie (Chris Rock) undercover to infiltrate nino’s empire. With that being said this movie is the shit. rags to riches or the American dream whatever you want to call it this movie is gangsta. Ice-t sets the tempo lovely in the beginning of this film with new jack hustler laced over the chase seen with Chris Rock.

i must say it seems like chris rock had some practice or something because he makes an extremely  convincing crackhead….

and i have to honor snipes with one of the best movie quotes EVER.

R.I.P. Dolemite

Oct 20th Comic legend Rudy Ray Moore died of apparent complications due to diabetes. Rudy was raunchier than his counter parts at the time (Richard Pryor and Red Foxx) and released many cult comedy albums though the 60’s and 70’s. The role he will always be remembered for is the titled pimp in the cult classic “Dolemite”. I love that fucking movie, love how he tells the man off, fucks bitches, and lives like a true pimp should. I love the part when he leaves prison and has his bitches bring him clothes and the white bitch brings some cotton and he flips out lol. Dolemite will live on, Many rappers have featured or sampled Rudy Ray Moore which shows his impact was far beyond the bounds of just comedy.
