Dead Presidents

“Hey brotha, you wanna get the mans foot off your kneck?”   this Hughes brothers classic from 1995 follows the life of a young teen graduating from high school ready to face the world during a turbulant vietnam war era. Rather than getting  off on a stereotypically racial standpoint the Hughes brothers focused more on the becoming of a man for young Anthony Curtis(larenz tate). The movie does a good job keeping with the 1960’s and 70’s feel, strongly due to one of the best soundtracks ever made and the simple visuals of classic cars and such. Though the filming can be summed up as average the thing that makes this movie a classic is the dialogue. DP is def the most quotably pleasing movie I have ever seen. Keith David, Chris Tucker, Bokeem Woodbine and even Therance Howard provide some of the best quotes ever. for example Kirby(keith david) has some of the most reusable quotes like “Thats y’alls muthafuckin punkass friend” and “thats uncle sam for ya, money ta boyn(<-thats not a typo thats how he says it lol) bokeem provides my favorite with the powerful”Hey doc Shut the Fuck up ya don’t know shit”and the comical chris tucker; rules one of my favorite seens with the ever so funny”now say some mo shit!! i’ll knock yo ass right back down… fake ass, wannabe preacher, no members havin muthafucka!!!!” ahahaaha oh the laughs. I love this movie hands down. If you haven’t seen it or just haven’t seen it lately… watch it, and see if you dont come away quoting somethin from it…..

this clip contains two of my favorite parts in the whole movie…enjoy

Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers – Crooklyn Dodgers ’95

Man if this isn’t the very definition of 95, I don’t know what is.  Crooklyn Dodgers ’95 consisted of Chubb Rock, DJ Premier, O.C. and Jeru da Damaja they recorded Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers for the Spike Lee Joint Clockers.(played in the first scene)  This was the follow up to the original record for the Crooklyn soundtrack the previous year, the group then consisted of Buckshot, Masta Ace & Special Ed.  I am sure at some point we will have to do a feature on the classic film Clockers as well as the first Crooklyn Dodgers record Crooklyn itself so stay tuned.Download/Stream–>http://www.zshare.net/audio/6005621835b0e6c8/

THEY LIVE is an all time 80’s classic starring Keith David and Rowdy Roddy Piper this was one of my favorites growing up. but after watching it when your older and understanding how the world works, this movie offers a refreshing what if…. not to mention that there is an awesome plot, a XXL helping of action and, the BEST fight scene ive seen in a long time. Watch for the first time or watch it again…. its time well spent.

John Crow – Jimmy Cliff

I’ve always been a big Jimmy Cliff fan, with that said cinemax has been showing the classic 1990 Segal film “Marked for Death” quite a bit lately and each time I catch it, I damn sure watch it.  Anyway in the scene where Segal is at the club in Kingston, Jimmy Cliff is performing the song “John Crow” enjoy the classic below.
