A Tribute To Roc (DJ Manipulator)

tributetoroc1-375x375

On September 19th we lost one of the most talented, influential, and inspirational DJ’s of all time. Roc Raida of the X-Ecutioners. He was such a huge influence on me and the way I approached DJing. I remember when I was starting out in high school I used to watch his and the rest of the X-Men’s routines on DMC dvds  over and over again, studying his body tricks(which i still cant do to this day),and the way he would juggle the records. It was incredible to watch him.  You could tell the he was really dedicated to his craft. So I took sometime out to send a salute to the legend cause he inspired me to do what I do on the tables today. Rest in Peace Roc Raida, your contribution to the artform will never be forgotten.

Jay-Z – Blueprint 3

GYI0000609805.jpg

I been reading and hearing a lot of Jay dropping the “Blueprint 3” album, which is exciting news. On the other hand I have been hearing this news for the past couple months, even Jay himself says he has no time restraints which is a double edged sword.

With no time restraints one does not have to worry about deadlines and can work on there own leisure, the other side is maybe he doesn’t have anything left and is struggling to produce a masterpiece which everyone expects.

I am looking forward to the Blueprint 3 with Mr. West’s production but I am not waiting a year to hear.

O.J. Likely To Get 18 Years

nfl_a_simpson1_4003o_j_simpson_photo2_mid2oj-simpson1Legs shackled in irons and his hands chained, Simpson will stand before District Court Judge Jackie Glass as she pronounces his sentence. Glass is likely to sentence OJ to 18 years behind bars in Nevada and possibly more. Damn I guess America can rest easy now, I hope ya got what you want.

All this is a  result of a bizarre incident on Sept. 13, 2007, when Simpson and six men, two of them holding burners, stormed into a hotel room and demanded OJ’s shit back (trophies, pictures and famous type stuff).

#7 Kevin Johnson KJ

Before…..

  and After

During the media-swirl of the high-profile election year NBA great Kevin Johnson  was elected Mayor of Sacramento California.  Kevin was born and raised in Sacramento and attended UCal Berkeley.  KJ is from the golden era of the NBA, he ran the point for the Phoenix Suns from 88 untill 98, an all-star and a 20 point 10 assist a night type of player.  Along with Sir Charles Barkley led the Suns to the Finals in 1993 against the unstoppable Bulls led by Michael Jordan who had a date with destiny that year for their 3-peat.  What I remember #7 for is his dunk over Hakeem Olajuwan in the 1994 playoffs against the Houston Rockets which you can view up above and of course his highlight reel.  You can’t tell me you don’t want a KJ suns throwback for the summer time

R.I.P. Dolemite

Oct 20th Comic legend Rudy Ray Moore died of apparent complications due to diabetes. Rudy was raunchier than his counter parts at the time (Richard Pryor and Red Foxx) and released many cult comedy albums though the 60’s and 70’s. The role he will always be remembered for is the titled pimp in the cult classic “Dolemite”. I love that fucking movie, love how he tells the man off, fucks bitches, and lives like a true pimp should. I love the part when he leaves prison and has his bitches bring him clothes and the white bitch brings some cotton and he flips out lol. Dolemite will live on, Many rappers have featured or sampled Rudy Ray Moore which shows his impact was far beyond the bounds of just comedy.

Minnie Ripperton – Inside My Love

Adventures in Paradise” was the 1975 album from Legendary Vocalist Minnie Ripperton. One of the tracks I fell in love with is “Inside My Love”. The smooth melodic groove is enough to indulge the listener, add Minnie vocals over it, its over. This track is the shit niggas relax bitches too feel me? I mean this is that ol pimp shit, shit yo daddy got ya moms too! This that Cadillac, trees wrapped in the joint, red light shit my nigga. Minnie Ripperton was a talented woman and expressed that vocally on many hit records. Her death was a blow to the music industry but she will live on in memory. Do you wanna ride?

It Was 1989

The 1st picture is banned from Cleveland I believe but cherished in Chicago as one of the most celebrated moments in the history of “Jordan”. It was the 1989 Playoffs where this shot took place; Craig was actually having a pretty good game until the great one ended it all in stunning fashion with a shot over him from the foul line. When Michael placed that shot it seemed as if time froze and he stood in the air long enough to snap his wrist perfectly and release the final dagger into the Cleveland Cavs. Ehlo collapsed as if to say “what more could I have done??” NOTHING EHLO, There was nothing no one could have done.

Watch the classic shot

Paul Newman Dead At 83

An actor like Paul Newman comes along rare in Hollywood and the world is experiencing this now. I’m glad I got to know the greatness of this man from such movies as “Cool Hand Luke” and “The Color of Money”. When I seen “Cool Hand Luke” I noticed how Paul settled into his character and expressed himself in a way most actors try but fail horribly. Paul maneuvered through roles with ease plus an air of charm and wit, the chemistry he shared with Robert Redford in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” was uncanny! Beyond a great actor the man was a philanthropist, his company “Newman’s Own” gives 100% of its revenue to charities. This is just a cool muthafucka what more can I say, R.I.P. Mr. Newman you will surely be missed.

Paul Newman died at age 83 on Sept 26th from a long battle with cancer. Ima let some of that gorilla grape pour out for my man Paul.

Motown Legend Passes On

This is something I had to post, someone who is so influential to music period should not go unnoted. I love Motown I think Berry Gordy is an evil genius the way he brought Ford assembly line tactics to his label. Norman Whitfield was serious about his pen game dropping such jewels as, “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”, Edwin Starr’s 1970 “War and “Cloud Nine”. Whitfield may not be on the front lines like the singers but the writer is just as important if not more. Smokey Robinson regarded him as one of the most prolific songwriters and producers of our time. I would have to agree.

R.I.P. Norman Whitfield.
