Passenger 57 (1992)

In the 90’s Wesley Snipes could do no wrong and the shit was evident in his choice of roles. I mean who would of thought a brother in the air fighting terrorist would still be relevant today? This is 1992

Dead Presidents

“Hey brotha, you wanna get the mans foot off your kneck?”   this Hughes brothers classic from 1995 follows the life of a young teen graduating from high school ready to face the world during a turbulant vietnam war era. Rather than getting  off on a stereotypically racial standpoint the Hughes brothers focused more on the becoming of a man for young Anthony Curtis(larenz tate). The movie does a good job keeping with the 1960’s and 70’s feel, strongly due to one of the best soundtracks ever made and the simple visuals of classic cars and such. Though the filming can be summed up as average the thing that makes this movie a classic is the dialogue. DP is def the most quotably pleasing movie I have ever seen. Keith David, Chris Tucker, Bokeem Woodbine and even Therance Howard provide some of the best quotes ever. for example Kirby(keith david) has some of the most reusable quotes like “Thats y’alls muthafuckin punkass friend” and “thats uncle sam for ya, money ta boyn(<-thats not a typo thats how he says it lol) bokeem provides my favorite with the powerful”Hey doc Shut the Fuck up ya don’t know shit”and the comical chris tucker; rules one of my favorite seens with the ever so funny”now say some mo shit!! i’ll knock yo ass right back down… fake ass, wannabe preacher, no members havin muthafucka!!!!” ahahaaha oh the laughs. I love this movie hands down. If you haven’t seen it or just haven’t seen it lately… watch it, and see if you dont come away quoting somethin from it…..

this clip contains two of my favorite parts in the whole movie…enjoy

WhiteBoyz

whiteboyzvideo

This movie became an instant hood comedy classic. WHITEBOYZ starring DANNY HOCH,DASH MIHOK,and MARK WEBBER and directied by MARK LEVIN. WHITEBOYZ was released in 1999 and contained several guest cameos as you can see in the picture above. For me this flick is an instant classic and should also be a classic for anyone else who has ever come across a wigga, wannabe gangsta, rich’s to rags white boy. DANNY HOCH does an amazing job at being the stereo-typical wigga. He honestly personifies every mis-perception a white boy could actually have of being gangsta or hood while simultaneously breaking the stereo-type of ALL black folks being gangsta, drinkin 40oz and having gang affiliations. This movie does a good job of making sure you understand that… If  you’ve never been to the ghetto, dont ever come to the ghetto, cuz you won’t understand the ghetto, so stay the fuck outta the ghetto….Watch and enjoy……………… p.s. double click the video to play

Prom Queen/ Prom Feen (New Jack City)

pookie thanks

Sometimes a movie has so many good parts you have to strip them down and give them individual shine, at HHTT we major in that! Today I take a part from the urban classic New Jack City, Pookie lets his crack addicted female know where she ranks after she informs him of her former prom queen status. Oh and let us not forget what happens when the prom queen tires to deny Pookie some of that glorious turkeyView the classic review by Lex of New Jack City

PHAROAHE MONCH-SIMON SAYS/QUEENS

monch

PHAROAHE MONCH – INTERNAL AFFAIRS album will definately go down as one of the top ten hip hop albums ever. Proof of this is the fact that trying to buy a factory sealed internal affairs cd will run you about $40. After parting ways with ORGANIZED KONFUSION  Monch stepped his game up significantly and came harder than he had ever previously done before. From beginning to end Internal Affairs showcases Monch’s MC capabilities and he is very capable. Just listenin to that opening of simon says with the godzilla intro is SO sick I can’t help but to do what simon says and get the fuck up. I’m also including the original godzilla theme and another of my favorite monch songs where he debuts his story telling abilities which are far above par. Enjoy.

listen to a few of hip hops finest rip up this remix

few MC’s can tell stories as detailed as monche listen and appreciate.

Double Impact

double impact jeandi1di2

This weekend I got a chance to watch a classic through the good people at Youtube. It seems Youtube is offering free full length movies provided by Crackle. I know most people by now know how to get anything they want off the net illegally but for the shook ones this is highly recommended. The movie I discovered was a gem from my childhood, Double Impact. The film was cutting edge allowing Van Damme to play dual roles side by side w/himself. The movie is about 2 brothers (Van Damme) who are separated as babies when their parents are killed off violently. One gets taken to America to live the privileged life while the other grows up in the streets of Hong Kong. 25 years later they meet for the first time and team up to avenge their parent’s deaths. Van Damme does an excellent job playing both roles, showing both a darker and lighter side to him. They don’t make em like this no more, pure action with extra blood! NEW JERSEY DRIVE

new-jersey

In keepin with our tribute to the most influential year of our lives I couldn’t help but honor one of our favorite movies ever. Directed by Nick Gomez  NEW JERSEY DRIVE was one of the most controversial movies released in 1995. In fact, it was only released in select cities, and Worcester was not one of them. But we did not forget about it, I remember waiting to rent it from Main st video. That shit would always be rented out but thanks to the glorious invention of the dual deck VCR (we would never commit piracy or copyright infringement) Brotha men and I were able to watch this movie till we could repeat it word for word. This was the sickest movie available, next to” The Show” (real OG’s will remember that shit too) at the time. The film stars Sharron Corley, Gabriel Casseus, and Saul Stein. At the time, the city of Newark had the highest automobile theft rate in the country, and Newark mayor Sharpe James, refused to allow filming of New Jersey Drive within the city limits, so the filming was completed in the surrounding locations of Newark rather than Newark itself. With that being said, this movie had it all. From rockin the Carhart coats and timbalands to gettin harassed by the cops and ya moms wit your friends geekin on you for it lol this film has everything that made 1995 one of the best years period. Not to mention one of the best movie soundtracks to ever be released which Rev has already stated in his post back in November http://hulkhatetimetravel.com/2008/11/13/i-cant-forget-new-jersey/.

But in case you forgot here it is again. Their could not have been a better ending to this movie. Take a listen to Queen Latifah as she rips it for her home town as the credits roll. Simply perfect.

MEMENTO

405px-memento_poster

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby,Carie-Ann Moss as Natalie and Joe Pantoliano as Teddy. Not many movies made these days grip you and captivate you they way memento can. Honestly this movie is one of the sickest movies I’ve ever saw. From the opening scene to just the plot itself, this movie is film-making genius. This movie is a masterpiece in the sense that it let’s you figure it out. I can always appreciate a movie that doesn’t insult my intelligence. It leaves you to put things together but it doesn’t make it impossible to figure out either. Ok the movie goes like this,Leonard Shelby, a former insurance fraud investigator is searching for the man he believes raped and killed his wife during a burglary. But Leonard suffers from antero-grade amnesia, which is basically short-term memory loss. The events unfold in 2 separate alternating narratives; one in black in white that goes in chronological order.  And the one in color consists of investigation sequences in reverse chronological order. Each color sequence begins with leonard forgetting where he was and what he was doing. The movies’ end sequence merges the narratives which make for one of the most rewarding endings you’ll ever see. With twists and turns along the way MEMENTO makes for an ultimate cerebral rollercoaster.
