LeVar Burton (Roots Theory)

Levar Burton is an extremely talented brother and will always hold a special place with me for his role as Kunta in Alex Haley’s ROOTS. I wanted to highlight a few of Levar’s roles after ROOTS and the impact the movie had upon his career. Playing a slave is not always the most glamorous of roles and sometimes can have a lasting effect which was clearly evident w/ Levar.

Reading Rainbow (The Glory)One of his most popular roles as the host of the award-winning Reading Rainbow, teaching little black boys and little black girls how to read. He did amazing in this role which ROOTS obviously helped him with because we all know when he got off the ship he had great difficulty reading and writing. Levar learned secretly to read and write while on Roots but hell would be to pay once Massa found out later in his career.

Star Trek (The Tragedy)After coming off a highly successful stint w/ Reading Rainbow the world was shocked when we discovered his role on Star Trek. I remember like it was the other day seeing my nigga Levar with them fucked up shades on, blinded by Massa! At first I thought it was cool, you know just having a brother on star trek and all but then I realized the everlasting effects ROOTS had on my brother. It was like some cosmic karma b, he was teaching kids to read a few years back now he on star trek BLIND (well not full blind but he had that low res security camera vision like Robocop, looked blocky like he dream of Lego’s) This just goes to show you, don’t think you gonna disobey Massa and live fruitful b, won’t happen.

Just like I remember street fighter soundtrack and all b

Uncle Ruckus

The Nigga will lie, the nigga will make excuses

ruckus obama

The Boondocks by far is one of the best shows created on American television today. The way the show tackles race is brilliant, what many may find offensive,  those who can see past the looking glass understand its true genius. In that regard I want to speak on one of my favorite characters on the show, Uncle Ruckus.  Uncle Ruckus is what we at HHTT would call a Ultra Nigga, the Ultra Nigga is cunning,  witty, charming and oh so evil. The Ultra Nigga’s primary purpose is to destroy, he has no compassion for his brothers he simply wants destruction.  DO NOT TRUST A NIGGA, Uncle Ruckus talk to em.

I’m a Nigga (New Section)

tyson

Relax don’t be afraid, its jus niggas! A lot of people are looking at the new ads for HHTT’s new section “I’m a Nigga” and get a little nervous. This new section we are creating is not speaking of just the Negro, niggas come in all shapes and colors and at HHTT we acknowledge that. A nigga is someone who loses all logic and acts foolishly when equipped with money or power. Look at the legendary Michael Tyson, he was a hoodlum who learned discipline through the sport of boxing. Soon the nigga took over when money, bitches, and ultra niggas like Don King interfered. To some Tyson is a confused nigga on the break of insanity, to me he is the last truth in a world full of lies.  Most nigga’s are of the African American variety  but don’t get it twisted……..a nigga can be Caucasian, Latino, Asian etc and HHTT will show you.

Fried Chicken and the Blackman

I need a GE Range BOSS!

I need a GE Range BOSS!

fried_chicken2 Even the most sophisticated of blacks could resist a plate of beautiful golden fried chicken. I think its something in our souls that makes us embrace the fried chicken with such delight, the way our mothers and grandmothers floured it up, seasoned it just right, and then fried it to perfection. A nigger loves his fried chicken that’s well known, you can see him with his 40 ounce talking his nonsense neck full of gold loving that fried delicacy. Its funny cause from the most light skinned to the darkest, fried chicken holds no prejudice. It’s one of those things you know, a lot of blacks who become successful or affluent like to turn away from the things that might be too “negro”, but chicken is a Blackman’s kryptonite. To this day the smell of some Kentucky Fried still makes me hard! Popeye’s though, holds a special place in my heart, I have to drive across state lines into Providence to get that shit, and I do so with pleasure.kfcjn1

No one can deny the splendor and glory of some bomb ass fried chicken.

“Save me, Joe Louis. Save me.”

joelouis2save me joe

Some people look at Joe Louis as a “Uncle Tom”, I totally disagree! He was not rude, abrasive and ultra black like Jack Johnson, Joe Louis was more powerful as a symbol to not just blacks but all races. Joe held the title for over 11 years more than any one before him, at a time when blacks felt weak Joe made us feel strong. Peep this,

“More than twenty-five years ago, one of the southern states adopted a new method of capital punishment. Poison gas supplanted the gallows. In its earliest stages, a microphone was placed inside the sealed death chamber so that scientific observers might hear the words of the dying prisoner to judge how the human reacted in this novel situation.

The first victim was a young Negro. As the pellet dropped into the container, and the gas curled upward, through the microphone came these words: “Save me, Joe Louis. Save me, Joe Louis. Save me, Joe Louis…”

That excerpt is from the book “Why We Can’t Wait” by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Joe Louis was more than a boxer to some, he was Hope.
