Cake And Eat It Too – Nice & Smooth

Cake and Eat it Too appears on Nice & Smooth’s second album Ain’t A Damn Thing Changed which was released back in 1991.  Ain’t A Damn Thing Changed is Greg Nice & Smooth B’s most successful release which also featured the classic singles Hip Hop Junkies and the popular Sometimes I Rhyme Slow.

Wait Your Turn – B.O.B.

Not brand new, but still new music from B.O.B. off of his Who the Fuck is B.O.B? mixtape.  I wouldn’t be surprised if  Wait Your Turn actually turned up on his debut album on Grand Hustle The Adventures of B.O.B.

Da Dirty 30 – CRU

In 1997, CRU (Yogie, Mighty Ha & Chadeeo) got together and put out Da Dirty 30.  The name Da Dirty 30 comes from how many tracks were on the album, although many were skits.  This would be the first and only album CRU released but is still widely considered a classic throughout the Hip-Hop community.  The record bolstered appearances from the Lox, Black Rob, Slick Rick & Ras Kass and consisted of hits like Loungin’ with my CRU, Just Another Case, Dat Shit, Goines Tale, Live at the Tunnel, and The Ebonic Plague.  I personally still own this tape, which still gets play in my boombox each summer when I’m Ballin.

Just Another Case was the most successfull song from the album and even had a video, the version I have features a verse from Slick Rick.

Live at the Tunnel is my favorite track from the Da Dirty 30 album and features the Rhythm Blunt Cru trading punches with a young and hungry Lox.

Hip-Hop Honors

The Hip-Hop Honors aired last night (10/6/08) and on a scale of 1-10 we gave it about a 7.  Honorees included Cypress Hill, Too Short, Slick Rick, Naughty By Nature, Isaac Hayes and De La Soul

Slick Rick’s segment was off the hook, MC Lyte did over the Ruler’s Back Ghostface and Biz Markie connected for La di Da Di  Spliff Star and Busta Rhymes rocking an eye patch covered The Show  Dana Dane and Fabolous performed  Hey Young World.  The Ruler even found time to perform his classic Children’s Story equipped with back up dancers toting pajama’s and even a bed.  (Ya’ll tucked in?)

De La Soul’s ceremony was equally dope, the introduction was provided by actors Joy Bryant and Michael Rappaport who even admitted that he named his son after Maceo.  Q-tip set it off performing his verse on Roller Skating Jam Saturday, and Estelle singing the hook, next up was Cee-Lo with his rendition of Potholes on My Lawn followed by the Mighty Mos Def and Chuck D of Public Enemy with Stakes Is High. Prince Paul kept it moving behind the wheels,  while EPMD finished up the dedication with Ego Trip and then to cap it off De La performed Me, Myself, and I & Buddy with another appearence from Q-tip to recite his verse from Buddy.

Isaac Hayes was honored by Scarface performing the Geto Boys Classic Minds Playing Tricks on Me which borrowed from Hung Up on My Baby.  Estelle sang the Mary J. Blige classic I Love You which samples Ikes Mood, then Cee-lo came out to perform Isaac’s own Look of Love and Mos Def capped it off performing Warning by The Notorious B.I.G. which sampled Walk on By off of Isaac’s Hot Buttered Soul.

Too Short’s dedication began with Luke Campbell proclaiming how good Short Dawg said the word bitch, Beeyaatch!  Lil’ John, Kid Rock and Bun B went over a few Too Short Tracks, then Scarface came out and performed The Ghetto.  The Pimp himself came out to the beat of Gettin It and with Face they finished Too Shorts dedication off right.

Naughty By Nature was the Final dedication of the evening.  Eve and Tracy Morgan did their Introduction with New Jersey’s own Queen Latifah on the help out.  Wyclef  began it by playing No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley which transitioned smoothly into Ghetto Bastard, here Juelz Santana got twisted up in Treach‘s tricky wordplay and couldn’t keep up with the flow but still did his thing no doubt.  “Arm me with Harmony” was uttered by Big Boi from Outkast then it was on, Sir Luscious Leftfoot recovered Naughty’s dedication nicely and capped it off with a nice lil’ freestyle with Fatha Clef on the Geetar at the end.  Naughty By Nature shut it down coming out to Uptown Anthem and Hip-Hop Hooray to close the show off nicely and leave me wanting a Naughty by Nature T-shirt.
